Software industry veteran joins open source unified communications platform developer
ATLANTA, Ga — May 23, 2008 — StarPound Technologies, the innovator in open-source solutions that streamline the way businesses electronically interact and communicate with customers, today announced that Scott Burkett has joined the company as Chief Operating Officer.
"We are delighted to have Scott lead our talented team," said StarPound Founder, Chairman and CEO Michael McChesney. "At StarPound, our research and development efforts have resulted in new disruptive enterprise technology. With Scott's entrepreneurial nature and operational experience, we will accelerate our go-to market strategy and increase our footprint in the unified communications applications space."
Burkett brings nearly two decades of technology and entrepreneurial leadership to StarPound. Prior to joining the company, Burkett founded and served as CEO of Incursio, Inc., an early stage software and intellectual property incubator. Other leadership roles include serving as CEO of PlayMotion, an industry leader in computer vision technologies, where Burkett achieved the four-year-old startup's first profitable year and grew the business by 86 percent. He also founded PeachPods.com, a leading provider of corporate podcast and social media services, as well as WetCanvas.com, which was acquired last year by F+W Media.
"StarPound's software is literally years ahead of where even the biggest industry players are today," said Burkett. "Much of the industry is just beginning to embrace the potential of marrying network convergence, business process management, open-source telephony, and web services." He added, "StarPound's sole focus for five years has been on these initiatives, resulting in an advanced software platform that uniquely positions us to become the market leader in this space."
StarPound has invested four years and nearly $20 million in developing StarPound's open-source platform for unified communications and business process management. Applications in StarPound natively support voice and data functions, including inbound and outbound VoIP calls, phone menus with speech recognition, web forms, web service interactions, email, chat, click-to-talk and online page sharing.
The new version of the StarPound open-source platform will be released this fall, with additional functionality for enterprise contact centers and online marketplaces.
StarPound's new COO holds a Bachelor's of Science in both Business Administration and Computer Information Technology from Thomas Edison State College, and is a veteran of the U.S. Army (Third Infantry Division). He is also the co-founder of StartupLounge.com, a not-for-profit organization that promotes and fosters fast-growth entrepreneurship in the Southeast.
